Mia graduated in 1984 as a psychologist from the University of Ghent. Since then she has gained extensive experience in diagnostics and treatment of various psychological and psychiatric problems within different settings. Until 1999, she had an independent primary care practice. From 1999 to 2020, she worked largely at GGZ Friesland in outpatient departments, day treatment, in an admission department, in the crisis service and in a clinical psychotherapeutic setting. Mia received her training as a clinical psychologist in Nijmegen and since February 2007 she has been registered in the BIG specialist register. As part of this training, she worked for 2.5 years at GGNet.
In 1991 her interest was aroused in the treatment of complex forms of trauma and the combination with personality problems, addiction and eating disorders. From that moment on, her development focused on this complex area. Mia is trained in dialectical behavioral therapy, CBT, MBT, EMDR and she is a mindfulness trainer.
